About Us

Founded in 2021 under the guidance of DiAnn Butler, Director of Economic Development for Grand County, and Ken Fucik, Chairman of the Grand Lake Creative District, Rocky Mountain Folk School began as a small, volunteer-driven effort to strengthen the creative and economic vitality of the region.
Since then, the school has grown into a thriving year-round program, offering more than 400 workshops and serving nearly 1,000 students. Through hands-on classes led by skilled instructors and working artisans, the school continues to connect people to traditional arts, practical skills, and the cultural heritage of the Rocky Mountains.
The support of the Grand Lake Creative District and the Town of Grand Lake has played a major role in this growth. What started in a single facility, with additional spaces generously provided by the Town as needed, has expanded into two dedicated, year-round locations: the Pitkin Building and the Grand Spirit Makerspace. As the school continues to grow, it is building a reputation as a regional destination for traditional craft, with an expanding focus on leatherworking, silversmithing, and woodworking.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Rocky Mountain Folk School remains committed to preserving these trades, supporting artisans, and fostering a sustainable creative economy in the Rocky Mountain region.
