Ready to create something beautiful with your own two hands? Step up to the lathe and explore the ancient, meditative art of woodturning at the Rocky Mountain Folk School.
Under the expert guidance of master woodworker Dennis Fanning—who brings over 30 years of experience—you’ll learn to transform raw wood into one-of-a-kind pieces.
Day 1 -Spindle work: Learn the fundamentals of spindle turning is about starting with a square piece of stock and turning it round and then adding beads and coves to add interest. Projects include spatulas, spoons, juice meddlers, honey dippers, mortar and pestle and rolling pins.
Day 2- Faceplate Work: This day will be about turning hollow form shapes, like bowls and plates and working across the grain , developing control over curves and symmetric forms. Learn how to hold and mount wood on the lathe by using faceplates, screw chucks, scroll chucks, and jam chucks. You will be creating both functional and artistic items to take home.






This fast-paced, hands-on class is designed for all skill levels—no experience necessary. All tools, materials, and safety gear are provided.
