Inclusion Policy

Purpose

Rocky Mountain Folk School (RMFS) is committed to fostering a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment where all participants — including students, instructors, staff, volunteers, board members, and community partners — feel respected, valued, and empowered to engage fully in learning and creative expression. We believe diversity enriches our programs and community and strengthens our mission of preserving and sharing traditional arts and crafts.

Commitments

RMFS embraces and encourages diversity across a broad range of identities and experiences, including but not limited to race, color, ethnicity, national origin, culture, religion, age, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, disability, family status, veteran status, and learning style. We are committed to:

  • Equitable Access: Ensuring programs, classes, workshops, and events are accessible and welcoming to all participants.
  • Inclusive Practices: Creating a culture where individuals of all backgrounds can participate fully, share their perspectives, and contribute to the life of the school.
  • Respectful Communication: Encouraging open, empathetic dialogue and mutual respect in all interactions.
  • Learning & Growth: Providing opportunities for ongoing reflection, education, and improvement in our policies, practices, and organization.

Implementation

To uphold these commitments, RMFS will:

  • Promote inclusive recruitment for instructors, staff, and volunteers.
  • Review program offerings and community outreach to reduce barriers to participation.
  • Strive for representation and accessibility across all areas of our organization.
  • Encourage feedback and dialogue that helps us identify and address areas for growth.
  • Provide training and awareness opportunities on inclusion best practices to our community.

Accountability & Continuous Improvement

All members of the RMFS community are expected to contribute to an environment that values diversity and inclusion. Concerns or suggestions related to equity and inclusion may be brought forward through appropriate leadership channels, where they will be taken seriously and addressed thoughtfully. RMFS will periodically review this policy to ensure it continues to reflect our values and community needs.
